If you’ve recently felt burned out by Riot Games’ tactical shooter Valorant, the developer has dropped this great update that is sure to get you back to playing the game. In their Patch 2.08, Riot Games dropped a brand-new map alongside some competitive updates. We’ll be covering the brand-new map, and a great new feature perfect for Valorant’s growing e-sports appeal.
Introducing: Breeze
Say hello to Breeze, a beautiful remote island resembling a lovely tropical paradise. We love the map’s bright and vibrant color scheme, bringing us some cool Caribbean vibes that is sure to be lots of fun to play in.
Breeze features two open bombsites with various alleys and tunnels for fast-paced gameplay. There’s lot of corners to sneak up on opponents and players will surely be excited by the unpredictable nature of this map. Arched corridors make for some excellent chokeholds,
Site A features two Radianite pyramids in a pool. Whilst this is clearly canonically a cooling pool, we can’t help but picture it as a cool water feature you’d find as a fountain outside of a five-star tropical resort. Players can use the pyramids as cover or use the scattered around boxes to shield themselves when they plant their spikes.
In the center of the map, there is a wide and open courtyard featuring a pillar right smack in the middle of the entire map. This is a fantastic open space to flush out your opponents, whilst the restrictive hall to the east of the courtyard makes for a great location for an ambush. Just pop down the chute to sneak up on your pray in mid.
Attackers spawn on a lovely Bermudan beach, complete with palm trees and an aqua sea. To enter the rest of the map, players will either have to pass under grand pillars to reach Site A – presenting a great chokepoint for defenders to exploit – or will have to sneak past the side snake to get to Site B.
Site B is a little more open than its counterpart, revolving around a huge pillar. There are few walls spike planters can use to hide behind, but this area leaves attackers largely open to rushing defenders. Any attacker looking to place down a spike will certainly need some cover from a teammate to pull of a Site B win.
Breeze launches with an unrated queue made specifically for those players wanting to grind on the brand-new map. This queue will play Breeze on repeat and is perfect for anyone looking to get a feel for the new map. This queue will be open for two weeks after the launch of the map.
The new map will be available in the standard queue for Deathmatch, Spike Rush and Escalation. Players can also select the new map in Custom games – perfect if you and your friends want to give the tropical paradise a spin.
Roger that, Coach!
Finally – Riot have added spectators in the form of Coaches to the game. This is in the hope of improving Valorant’s e-sports pedigree. These coach slots have been added to tournament mode custom games. Currently, Coach slots’ abilities are limited – but as Riot Games test out their new feature with Valorant’s wider player base, expect to functionality improve later down the line.
Coaches can spectate tournament mode games and are locked to observing the team chosen in the lobby. Coaches can’t use map pings, team chat or voice chat. They can use all chat and party chat where they need to communicate with tournament moderators. Coaches can pause a match where needed.
This allows a greater level of moderation for tournament matches, and Riot Games are hoping this new addition sparks a great partnership with the develop and coaches from the Valorant Champions Tour ecosystem.
