Transferring an external DVD drive into external devices is relatively easy for those who have experience with hand tools. It’s similar to mounting a drive inside however the electronic components to connect and access the drive are contained within the shell of the external drive. After you’ve completed the process connecting the external drive in a powered outlet and connect it to your PC or laptop using the USB port and then you’ll be able to access any media the DVD drive installed can read. The process should take about 15 minutes to finish.

STEP-1

The drive enclosure’s external components must be disassembled by removing the screws as per the instructions of the manufacturer. (Please be aware that this process will differ based on the manufacturer, model and make generally, but it requires taking off four screws at the lower part of the device.)

The shell cover can be opened to expose open the 5.25 inches drive mount bracket within the. The bracket for mounting comprises an ledge that has side rails that are large enough to accommodate the drive, and the electrical components that connect to the drive from the rear.

STEP-2

Set your 5.25 inches IDE DVD drive on the rails for mounting and slide it towards toward the back of the bracket until you are able to access it with the data and power cables that are connected to the back of the mount for the drive.

STEP-3

Connect your IDE cable for data to your drive and align the notch in the controller’s external mount of the case with the slot of the IDE connector on the drive. It should be able to slide into the drive with only a little force. Connect the power cable of four pins between the drive and the mount and the drive as well.

STEP-4

Continue to insert the drive into the bracket until it’s placed on back of bracket using the mounting holes on this drive’s side aligned with four holes that are in the mounting rail.

STEP-5

Attach the DVD drive to the bracket by fixing it via the 4 mounting holes on the opposite edges of the bracket. Two each side.

STEP-6

Install the cover back onto the shell by moving it in place over the drive that is mounted. The cover is secured with the screws that have been taken out of the shell after it is opened.
